Chemical industry catalyst: Yttrium fluoride can be used as a catalyst or catalyst carrier in the chemical industry for certain organic synthesis reactions. More importantly, it is a key component of the catalytic cracking (FCC) catalyst for petroleum, effectively improving the conversion efficiency of hydrocarbons. Its unique crystal structure also makes it play a significant role in the preparation of rare earth crystal laser materials and upconversion luminescent materials, which have wide applications in laser technology and display technology.

Pond Phosphorus Remover: Due to its chemical properties, yttrium fluoride can effectively remove phosphate from water bodies through precipitation, which helps address the problem of water eutrophication. Its nanomaterials also show potential for application in environmental remediation for removing heavy metal ions (such as mercury ions).

Batteries and Energy Materials: Due to its high ionic conductivity, yttrium fluoride is a potential key material for solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and solid electrolytes. It is also an intermediate raw material for preparing metallic yttrium, which is used in energy storage devices such as nickel-metal hydride batteries. As a fluoride ion conductor, it has research value in new generation energy storage technologies such as solid-state fluoride ion batteries.

Chemical synthesis intermediates: As an important source of yttrium, yttrium fluoride is a key precursor for synthesizing other yttrium compounds (such as yttrium oxide). It itself is also a fundamental raw material for preparing ZBLAN fluoride glasses, rare earth crystal laser materials (such as erbium-doped and neodymium-doped laser crystals) and scintillation materials (used in medical PET/CT imaging). In the field of optical coating, it is used to manufacture anti-reflection films to enhance the performance of optical components.
